The launch of Radio Pakistan
On 14 August 1947, at 11 pm, the last Allamaiya of All India Radio Lahore was broadcast. Shortly before midnight, the identity tune of Radio Pakistan was played. After this, it was announced in English that at midnight, the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan would come into being. At exactly 12 am, on 15 August 1947, these words were heard first in English and then in Urdu:
Zahoor Azar in English and Mustafa Ali Hamdani in Urdu made these announcements. Immediately after this, Maulana Zahir Al-Qasimi recited verses from Surah Al-Fath of the Holy Quran, the Urdu translation of which was also broadcast. After this, the first Sazeena composed by musician Khwaja Khurshid Anwar was played. Then Qawwal Santo Khan and his companions presented Allama Iqbal's poem "Saqinama". The first broadcast of Radio Pakistan Lahore ended with a speech by Hafiz Hoshiarpuri.
