Cambodia has gone through countless eras from pre-Angkorian times to the present day. In particular, in recent decades, Cambodia has undergone frequent regime changes, including monarchy, foreign colonization, and slippage, as long as the country can return. Come to a constitutional monarchy like today. Along with the change of leadership of the country many times, we also see the change of the flag, the flag representing this nation changes frequently. The following are the forms of flags that Cambodia has used in each period from the time of Preah Ang Duong to the present:
First flag: The flag representing Cambodia was first used during the reign of King Ang Duong from 1840 to 1863.
Second Flag: The first official flag of Cambodia, which has a similar shape to the current flag and the first two designs. Instead of the image of Angkor Wat, this flag was used from 1863 to 1947.
Third flag: A flag that was used briefly from March to September 1945 to represent Cambodia in the Japanese-backed government of Son Ngoc Thanh during World War II.
Fourth flag: The flag adopted by the National Assembly after the first general election in Cambodia in 1947. This flag represented the autonomous country of the French Union and later became the flag of independent Cambodia until the 1970 coup. The Sihanouk National Army movement used the flag as a symbol from 1979 to 1989. This flag has been used again since the proclamation of the Kingdom of Cambodia (Second) in 1993 until today.
The 5th flag: The flag represents the Lon Nol government of the Khmer Republic and represented Cambodia at the United Nations from 1970 to 1975. The flag also represents Republicans and opponents of the Khmer monarchy.
Tenth flag: This flag was used once during the first general election in Cambodia in 1947 until the 1970 coup. But after the proclamation of the Kingdom of Cambodia (second) in 1993, this flag has been used again to this day.
